Gynecological services and treatments

Our gynecology unit is staffed with gynecologists—who focus on the female reproductive system— and obstetricians—who focus particularly on pregnancy and childbirth—to provide care for women's health. Our specialized teams focus on conditions such as incontinence, pregnancy, cervical cancer and uterine cancer.

Routine gynecological services

Our physicians provide a wide variety of gynecological services to treat women's health conditions, including:

Gynecological exam

A gynecological exam is a diagnostic tool that helps obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs) determine the overall health of the female reproductive organs.

A gynecological exam includes:

  • External exam—Examines the external portions of the female genitalia, including the labia and vulva
  • Pelvic and cervix exam—Examines the pelvis and cervix for abnormalities
  • Pap smear— A diagnostic test that detects precancerous and cancerous cells

Pregnancy testing

During a pregnancy test, the doctor will either use an in-office urine test, or may potentially order outpatient blood work, to determine pregnancy. Both diagnostic tests are used to detect hCG, a hormone produced during pregnancy.

Pregnancy symptoms

Many early signs of pregnancy could be symptoms of other conditions. However, if you are sexually active and are experiencing any combination of these, you may consider taking a pregnancy test.

These signs may include:

  • Backaches
  • Darkening of areolas
  • Delayed or missed menstrual cycle
  • Fatigue/tiredness
  • Food cravings
  • Frequent urination
  • Headaches
  • Nausea or morning sickness
  • Swollen/tender breasts

Preventive care

Our office understands the importance of preventive care for women, which is why we also provide preventive health and wellness education. Our goal is to encourage women to schedule preventive screening procedures, such as a yearly gynecological exam. This ensures any health conditions are detected early and increases the chances of effective treatment.

STD testing

There are multiple ways to test for an STD, including a blood test, urine test or swab. If the test determines the presence of an STD, our doctors will provide the most effective treatment plan possible. In addition, we also provide vaccines for the human papilloma virus (HPV), a common STD that can lead to cervical cancer.

Gynecological surgery

We perform gynecological surgery using minimally invasive techniques or robotic surgery when possible. This results in minimal incisions, less pain and scarring, fewer complications and a faster recovery.

Gynecological surgery may be an effective choice for certain women's health conditions, such as:

  • Bladder support
  • Cervical cancer
  • Endometriosis
  • Excessive menstrual bleeding
  • Fistulas
  • Hysterectomy
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Pelvic reconstruction or pelvic floor repair
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Tubal reversal/recanalization
  • Uterine cancer
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Uterine or vaginal vault prolapse
  • Vulvodynia
